Description

Orphaned Vasya, a small but prodigiously talented violinist, wanders from village to village, his violin his only means of earning a meager meal. He's taken in by a partisan unit, becoming not just their "regimental son," but a vital member of the group. It's Vasya's violin playing that draws the attention of a Nazi patrol, creating a crucial distraction that allows the partisans to successfully sabotage the enemy. Later, during a perilous encounter with a German patrol, Vasya and a partisan named Maxim are cornered. Only the intervention of Franek, a Polish organist who hides the boy in his church, saves Vasya from certain capture.
