Several films share a common protagonist: Lieutenant Andrei Kachura, a rural police officer. His kind nature, amicable disposition, and innate shrewdness invariably draw him into the investigation of criminal offenses, making him a pivotal figure in solving each case.
The series unfolds in the remote Belarusian countryside, focusing on the work of Andrey Kachura, a local police officer. Near a reservoir, the headmaster of the local school, Volskiy, is found murdered, a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. A computer specialist, Denis Ryzhkov, arrives at the school as part of a placement program. He discovers a computer with illegal satellite connections and a complex program belonging to the deceased, set to launch something unknown in a few days. Meanwhile, at an abandoned Pioneer camp, German Markevich is organizing a jeep trial competition—a mere cover for his smuggling operation. However, it seems Markevich is working for someone else. Kachura finds a young woman suffering from amnesia, wounded in the head with the same weapon used to kill Volskiy—a Browning 1906. A new body is discovered at a transformer substation.
A beat cop and a hacker, Denis Ryzhkov, are racing against time to solve a murder and stop the launch of a program they believe will have devastating consequences. Denis discovers a highly classified document on a computer. Lieutenant Kachura is trying to connect the murder of Volsky, the wounding of a young woman, and a killing at a substation. He identifies the wounded woman as Daria Mikhasevich, a conservatory student. At Volsky's house, Kachura finds a carefully hidden pre-war photograph of his father. Daria escapes from the hospital. Denis Ryzhkov is attacked at his school in an attempt to steal the computer containing crucial information.
Kachura discovers that at the war's outset, the elder Volsky, along with a partner, was escorting a shipment of gold bullion from the bank. The shipment never arrived, and it's strongly suspected Volsky senior stashed it. Kachura's father-in-law owes a substantial sum to some very dangerous individuals. They kidnap the lieutenant's wife, demanding Darya Mikhasevich in exchange for her release.
Herman is on the trail of Darya, shielded by the unwavering Lieutenant Kachura. From Minsk comes Major Drobyšev, a specialist in computer security. Herman is gunned down – the same Browning used before. A ghost in the machine knows about the gold Volsky Sr. stashed at the bottom of the dam. His plan: cripple the dam with a custom-made computer program, and claim the treasure.
