Russia in 64 Squares: The Story of Champions

"Russia in 64 Squares: The Story of Champions" is a documentary series of thirty 10-minute episodes exploring Russia’s history through the lives of its legendary chess players and the development of the national chess school. The achievements of Russian chess masters are a source of pride, showcasing intellectual victories and competitive spirit in a field where the country remains a leader. Some names are legendary and widely recognized, while others are unfairly forgotten. Each contributed significantly to the game’s evolution. The series features actor Sergey Burunov, world vice-champion Sergey Karjakin, and top Russian chess players and historians. The project was created by the Alexander Pechersky Foundation with support from the IRI.
